URBINTEL Labs

Building urban science simulators. Long-term vision for a brighter future...

Walkability

  • Goal: enabling the 15-minute city [C Moreno], one of the most pressing topics in contemproary urbanism.
  • Using routing technology expertise for assessing and improving walkability in a city.
  • Idea of building an open-source version of something similar to Walk Score.

Air Pollution: Simulation of Urban Scenarios

  • Numerical simulation: finite-element method for pollutant spread on a grid. Example.
  • Goal: identify and remove most significant pollution sources from harming most sensitive locations (schools, hospitals, retirement homes, etc.)
  • Scientific literature [1] [2] [3] [4] [5].
  • Air pollution world map.
  • NOTE: This project is on hold for the time being as I am not able to invent a good core software concept for it and the geopolitical and social situation is too dire and it is impossible to focus on so many things. For now, this is a dream to work on in a few years when people are more safe. Peace in our time!

Bike lane planning and analysis: India edition

  • Need to research India-specific GIS datasets, and also specific transportation safety issues and laws.
  • Plan to start around 2030.

Charity project: think-tank style journalism research

  • General concepts about rail as a solution for economic development in Africa (transporting and sharing of agriculture and well-digging machines, within-Africa trade and business trips, etc.) [example: alstom.com] See our growing web page.
  • Iron-based (or other materials) electric batteries to replace the need for dangerous cobalt mining.
  • Rocket stoves as heat and cooking solution for the rural poor that produces almost no smoke and uses far less fuel than conventional fires.
  • Mining robots, to alleviate the dangerous mining conditions for humans throughout the world. Farming robots.

We are looking for collaborations in research (academia, research labs, ...) or commercial projects (building simulation software) on these and similar topics.
